“Really, he thought, if you couldn’t trust a poet to offer sensible advice, who could you trust?”
~ Neil Gaiman, The Graveyard Book
Writes all the things. Most of the things never write back.

Occasionally I will hear an unfamiliar little sound come from my computer. I like to think it’s the sound effect from some unseen beneficent spirit bestowing a blessing on me, but if it IS that, I remain unaware as to the nature of the specific benefit I have received.
It COULD be something the beneficent spirit has averted, like an asteroid that was supposed to come down on my head or something. Or it could just be the sound notifying me of an incoming e-mail or instant message.
OK, so early next Sunday morning, we are bringing BACK an hour from the great beyond. So where did that hour COME from? Was it the hour that mysteriously disappeared last spring? Does anyone know where it’s been between then and now? Do we know what – or who – it’s bringing back with it?
Opportunity wouldn’t have to knock if only I’d fixed the doorbell.
So I go to bed in September
I wake up
It’s cool out
Leaves have changed color
(Some are down)
You’d think it was Octob…
HEY. WAIT A MINUTE.
I woke up this morning and somehow, it was September.
Admittedly, it did arrive in the customary way, as the day following August 31.
I just misread “a show’s premiere episode” as “a show’s premature episode,” and I was imagining a producer yelling, “Wait! WAIT! WE’RE NOT READY YET!”
And then I remembered words of wisdom from Lorne Michaels about when to call your work finished enough to go public with it. He said of Saturday Night Live, “The show don’t go on because it’s ready. It goes on because it’s 11:30.”
As Steve Jobs said, “Real artists ship.”
Watching a documentary on plane crashes.
Survivor: “I was completely terrified.”
Question: is anyone ever incompletely terrified?
I just saw the question “Where will you find your next story?”
Under the tip of my pen, was my first thought.
“There’s something very soothing about hanging out with people who know all about your faults and like you just fine anyway.”
~ Maggie Stiefvater
