Winter is one of my top four favorite seasons.
Verisimilitude
“It”s gonna be a nice fall-like afternoon today,” the guy on the radio says.
Yup. Nothing gets more fall-like than a day in October with typical temperatures. When it’s, you know, FALL.
Summer’s sweet farewell kiss
“See?” October says. “I’m not so bad!”, and gives us an 80° day to start the month.
Don’t be fooled. From the looks of the forecast, this is the ONLY day this warm this month, which means, possibly for the rest of the year. No other day this month is forecast to exceed 65°. In fact, only twelve of the other thirty days are in the 60s.
Fourteen days are in the 50s.
Four are in the 40s.
Consider today a sweet farewell kiss from Summer 2019. See you in 2020…
Not terrible
The local weathercaster referred to this weekend as “not terrible” – two days of highs of 81° and a 20% chance of showers or scattered showers.
I hope she was being ironic. I’ll take that “not terrible” through the end of October, please. Then you can have your falling leaves and pumpkin spice whatever.
Because details matter
OK, what deity do I need to sacrifice what kind of animal to, to bring on spring and warm weather?
Asking for a friend.
In Like a Lion
March came in like a lion.
It doesn’t matter how it goes out. It will have eaten you by then.
It’s too dark out to see the rainbows anyway
So far, the beginning of March looks much like the end of February. Where are the unicorns and rainbows? Not to mention the leprechauns.
Oh, wait. I just did mention the leprechauns.
A warm November night
A warm November night
and the dog and I
sit on the lawn
and watch the stars
beyond the clouds
Today’s nature report
The crocuses in bloom yesterday are closed against the cooler breezes of today. In the branches above, the birds are gossiping.
Weather report, Oswego, December 15, 2016
When I was in Oswego today? When there was a blizzard warning? And I ran into absolute whiteout conditions? And I was carrying boxes to my car and when both hands were occupied with car keys and boxes, my hat blew off my head and my reading glasses blew off my face? And even with holding the car door, I was worried it was going to rip off?
I found out tonight the winds were 84 mph in Oswego. That’s more than the hurricane I went through with Stephen Hunter. Good times.
